Overview
The MSA Mavericks Girls Basketball team has won six consecutive state championships. The team regularly graduates players to Division I college teams. Head coach, James Braxton, is multiple-time coach of the year in the VISSA and BRC.

The Miller School of Albemarle Girls Basketball team is recognized as one of the top independent school programs in the country. Coached by three-time VISAA and six-time BRC Coach of the Year, James Braxton, the team has had remarkable success over the past fifteen years. This includes six straight VISAA State Championship titles, six Blue Ridge Conference titles, and a remarkable 269-95 game record. Players on the team excel on and off the court—most players on the team are multi-sport varsity athletes and leaders in the student body. MSA players have moved on to University of South Carolina Upstate, University of Miami, University of Maine, Gardner Webb, Howard University, NC A&T University, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Monmouth, University of Hawaii, Winthrop University, Shepard University, California Baptist, Davis and Elkins, UVA-Wise, Coker, Christopher Newport University, Mary Baldwin University, Hollins College, Hood College, and Merchant Marine Academy.
