Mavericks Win State Championship

Maverick pile to celebrate

In a dramatic finish to a remarkable season, Miller School of Albemarle won the VISAA Division I State Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 16–3 victory over Paul VI. The game ended in the sixth inning by run-rule, punctuated by senior Evan Hankins’ towering walk-off grand slam.

The championship marks Miller’s first state title since moving up to Division I, a milestone moment for the baseball program.

Miller jumped out to a commanding 6–0 lead early in the game. Paul VI responded with three runs to close the gap, but the Mavericks answered with two runs in the fifth and a seven-run explosion in the sixth, capped by Hankins’ decisive swing.

Congratulations to our Maverick baseball program. The State Championship highlights their dedication to and love of the sport.
