Little Biggest Maverick Farmers

Curious minds, little hands, and big hearts fill the field in Miller School’s Upper Meadow on most afternoons.

Our lower school farm class gets to work the minute the young farmers arrive. With animals to care for, gardens to tend, and chores to complete, the young Mavericks have their hands full. They buzz around the farm the same way our honey bees do the flowers in the garden, with joy and purpose. They know what to do and are eager to get it done.

From shearing the sheep to watering the strawberries, the students work with smiles on their faces and dirt under their fingernails. While there is plenty of work to be done, there is also delicious food to eat. From strawberries to arugula, the students sneak in a bite or two, or ten, as they harvest from the garden.

And while the animals need care, they also need love. There is always time for a hug or two when tending to the sheep and lambs.

The farm is a place where learning happens naturally and a deep sense of curiosity inspires the curriculum.
