Ricky Harzula

B.S. Secondary Education and History, Seton Hall University

Ricky Harzula joined the Miller School faculty in 2026 after teaching and consulting in schools across the country. After graduating from Seton Hall University, he taught high school history in Detroit, Michigan for 9 years and developed a robust postsecondary support program for students. Then he worked for two years as a senior educational consultant supporting teachers in NYC public schools. Finally, he went back to the classroom and taught middle school social studies in Philadelphia before coming to MSA. 

He is driven by a simple belief: every student walks in the door with an identity, knowledge, and potential worth building on. In the classroom, he approaches teaching and learning with an inquiry based approach where students are challenged to ask questions about themselves, the content, and the world around them. As historians, students will develop the skills necessary to help them navigate the global society they find themselves walking into in today’s world. 

Outside the classroom, Ricky loves staying active and challenging his body and mind. He and his wife, Kelsey, are avid runners who have run multiple marathons. He also loves playing soccer and other sports. He loves playing board games and going to trivia nights. When not out and about he can be found at home with his wife, dog, Yankee, and cat, Leo reading, watching good movies, and enjoying a good meal.
