A Familiar Voice Returns to the Hill

For many in the Miller School community, David Riddick needs no introduction.

For others, especially those who have joined the Hill in recent years, his return this spring offers the chance to meet one of the most respected teachers ever to stand at the front of a Miller classroom.

For nearly four decades, Mr. Riddick has distinguished himself as a history teacher in Virginia, earning statewide recognition for his work in the classroom and continuing to serve the College Board as a lead grader for the AP U.S. History exams. At Miller, he has long been admired for his command of the subject, his unmistakable classroom presence, and his ability to challenge students to think deeply about the past and its connection to the present.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Riddick is also a Hall of Fame lacrosse coach whose impact on generations of student athletes and young people across Central Virginia continues to be felt.

His return as a long term substitute brings a familiar voice and presence back to the Hill, one that many alumni still remember and newer students will quickly come to appreciate.

For students and families meeting him for the first time, this 2018 video offers a glimpse into the teacher and mentor who has long been part of the fabric of Miller School.
