I grew up in El Paso, Texas, but spent most of my adult life on the East Coast, save ten years in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve been a Naval Officer (Submarines), consultant, very briefly worked in intellectual property law, and for twenty years was a Telecom/Wireless Executive (multi-nationals to startups) responsible for business development, research and development, and government affairs. For the past thirteen years, however, I’ve been pursuing my passion for teaching. I began as an Adjunct Professor at GWU, teaching graduate engineering management courses in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. This led to a Master’s in Education and science teaching assignments in Arlington and most recently, South Lakes High School in Fairfax County, where I was Head of Physics, taught all manner of Physics courses (Physics I to IB I/II Physics), and was responsible for 25 sections of Physics every year.
And now, I am thrilled to be joining the Science Faculty at the Miller School, and yes, there’s a story there. My daughter was married at Pippin Hill Winery about six years ago, and we fell in love with the area. Multiple trips down from DC later, we decided to purchase land and build a house in the Bundoran Farm Community. Chickens and gardening are now very important parts of our life.
When not teaching or working on the house, my wife Audrey and I like to hike, swim, and bike as often as possible. We never get tired of the beautiful views down here. Additionally, we try to spend as much time as possible with our five kids and their families, and of course, the grandchildren: Katie, Liam, Conor, and Reina. Finally, we’re true dog lovers, and our new Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Maeve, has joined the family.
