Maggie Harris
Director of Academic Advising & Student Support
Maggie has had a passion for teaching and learning ever since she was a child. As a daughter of elementary special education teachers, Maggie learned the value of education early on. Her parents’ work inspired her; their commitment to students, their dedication to their professional growth and learning, as well as their strong passion for service and community was influential in Maggie choosing a similar career path.
Maggie attended Towson University, where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in integrated Elementary and Special Education while competing as a Division 1 swimmer.
After graduation, Maggie began her teaching career on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Queen Anne’s County as a special educator and IEP Chairperson. While teaching, Maggie earned a master's degree in Special Education in May of 2014 and a second master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading Education in May 2017, both from the University of Virginia. After working in Queen Anne’s County, Maggie was the Disability Access Specialist at Washington College and went on to serve as the Director of Academic Support at St. Andrew’s School for the last 5 years. New to boarding school life, Maggie fully immersed herself into the culture and community; she served as an advisor, dorm affiliate, and coached a variety of sports including swimming, cross country, and field hockey.
As a northern Virginia native, Maggie is so excited to be back in Virginia to begin her work at the Miller School. She is a mother of 2 boys, Jack and Logan, a wife, and also an identical twin. Maggie is a lover of all things health and wellness. She is a certified personal trainer and pilates instructor and has taught at a variety of fitness studios over the last decade. In addition to fitness, Maggie loves traveling, the outdoors, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
