Dr. Julie Gilliam holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia and brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across K–12 education, higher education, and human resources.

Dr. Gilliam began her career as an elementary school teacher, later serving as principal of two schools for 15 years and as Assistant Superintendent of Prince Edward County Schools for seven years. In higher education, she directed the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Piedmont Community College and taught as adjunct faculty for both the University of Virginia and Piedmont, mentoring aspiring educators and leaders. She was subsequently recruited to become Piedmont’s Director of Human Resources, formally launching her career in HR leadership.

Throughout her career, Dr. Gilliam has embraced her identity as a lifelong learner. She has been privileged to work in positions that continually allow her to teach in one way or another—whether in classrooms, schools, or through developing and mentoring staff. Her professional journey reflects a deep commitment to empowering people and organizations to achieve their fullest potential.
