Jay is an award-winning poet, fiction, nonfiction, and travel writer, whose work has appeared in the United States, Ireland, England, Sweden, and France. Author of The Mexican Messiah: A Novella & Stories (Cornerstone Press), he was runner-up for the Leapfrog Global Fiction Prize and nominee for the Pushcart Prize, Best New American Voices, and The Story Prize. Recent work has appeared in CutBank, Prime Number, The Writer’s Chronicle, Upstreet, Mid-American Review, and other journals and anthologies. He has taught at Randolph College, Vermont College, WriterHouse, and the University of Virginia. He has also been a jazz drummer and competitive open-water swimmer.
