Dr. Andrea Douglas Awarded the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal

Andrea Douglas is a former Board of Trustee member.

Dr. Andrea Douglas has been awarded the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Award in Citizen Service.

Dr. Douglas served on the Miller School Board of Trustees from 2016-2023, and her son Loicke Derquenne attended Miller School and graduated in 2020. Dr. Douglas is the founding executive director of Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and currently co-chair of the University of Virginia Commission on the University in the Age of Segregation.

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals are the highest external honors bestowed by the University of Virginia, which grants no honorary degrees. They recognize achievements of those who embrace endeavors in which Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and third U.S. president, excelled and held in high regard.
