Leaning Toward Light
Dr. Andy Eaton is an educator who leans into his work. As a teacher, he pays close attention to his students’ comments in class. He guides them to sharpen their thinking and writing skills. Outside the classroom, he leans into crafting his own poems. His work continues to impress audiences and critics.
Most recently, he has had a poem published in the anthology Leaning toward Light: Poems for Gardens and Hands that Tend Them. Dr. Eaton is one of numerous rising stars in poetry included in the anthology. Legendary chef, author, and food activist Alice Waters praised the anthology: “This collection brings together many of my favorite writers to celebrate the limitless offerings of nature; wandering through its pages feels like taking a long stroll through a beautiful garden.”
Dr. Eaton’s continued passion for teaching and writing is inspiring. In his classroom, much like a well-tended garden, he provides students with the fertile ground of meaningful discourse, meticulous reading, and precise writing to foster their growth. Dr. Eaton thoughtfully remarked: “Learning is always a choice. Something distinctly human is that we can adjust our minds, and my hope is that students find their own latent brilliance is enough to light the path for them. At least, a step at a time.”
