Freaky Friday

MSA’s Performing Arts Program staged the Disney musical Freaky Friday.

Spending a day “walking in someone else’s shoes” could be a freaky experience. The drama of being temporarily transported into another person’s body is a hilarious and eye-opening theme in popular culture. Body-swap movies include classics like Tom Hank’s Big and more recent comedies like Ryan Reynold’s The Change-Up. One of the longest running stories in this genre is Freaky Friday. The hilarious tale of an overworked mother swapping bodies with her teenage daughter began as a children’s novel in 1972 and has gone on to be adapted into three films and now a Disney musical.

MSA’s Performing Arts program brought Freaky Friday to Old Main’s chapel in this winter’s musical.

Student performers put on a dazzling performance, and, in the process, gave the audience a new appreciation for the triumphs and challenges of both high school students and their parents. By the end of the show, both characters landed happier and more confident in their own shoes. The same can be said for the MSA performers and the audience after this winter’s wonderful musical.
