Olivia Wagner recognized by coaches as the 2019 BRC Player of the Year.

Lady Mavs continued their impressive 2019 season with a convincing win at the Blue Ridge Conference Championship on Saturday night in Roanoke, Virginia. With long-time rival Carlisle as an opponent in the championship game, James Braxton kept the team focused and determined. Led by freshman Olivia Wagner and senior Naya Hunter, MSA demonstrated why it is regarded as one of the most successful girls basketball programs in the state. The team led the game from the opening minute and finished a remarkable thirty-three points ahead at the buzzer.

Mr. Braxton commented: “It was a team effort. Eight players scored, and the defense limited Carlisle’s ability to take good shots.”

At the end of the tournament, Olivia Wagner was recognized by coaches as the Blue Ridge Conference Player of the Year. With three more years ahead of her, Wagner will be a player to follow. In the championship game, she led the team in scoring with seventeen points. Seniors Naya Hunter and Hannah Woodard had fifteen and thirteen points respectively.
