Setting the Stage
Audiences of MSA’s fall drama production of Almost, Maine were transported to a remote, mythical town. While the acting captivated audiences, the stage design delivered a stunning visual for the show.
The remarkable set was created by fine arts and design/build student, Khue Pham. She utilized the skills she has gained in Ms. Barrett’s art courses and Mr. Hanson’s Design/Build courses to imagine and then create the town Almost, Maine in MSA’s chapel. Khue’s work set the stage for a great show.
Khue remarked: “As an advanced art student, I love drawing. I also love crafting and building. I take both advanced art and design and build. I really enjoy those classes, and the set design work allowed me to combine these skillsets in service of the school.”
Drama coach and director of Almost, Maine, Dana Ainsworth, remarked: “It was such a gift to have Khue’s talents on our set crew this year. Her set design was incredible and added so much depth and beauty to the play. She was as indispensable as any of our actors!”
Khue concluded: “As an artist, my favorite medium is colored pencil. I’m also working on other media, such as acrylic paint and watercolor, to improve my skills. I signed up for drama as a props and background set maker. It is a privilege for me to have opportunities to use my art skills to help out the community. Seeing my artwork being displayed around the school and on stage makes me proud and exhilarated. I am grateful that Miller has given me chances to draw, paint, and build.”
