Although a new addition to Miller School’s faculty, Tom is no stranger to teaching. Before coming to Miller, he taught history and coached soccer for twenty-five years at Tandem Friends School, where he served as history department chair for eight years. He has also taught at Forsyth Country Day School in North Carolina and Cape Henry Collegiate in Virginia Beach. A native Virginian with a passion for history, Tom received his BA in the subject from the University of Richmond and his MA from the University of Virginia. He is an avid NFL fan who was brought up rooting for Washington and is old enough to remember when they were a good team. Tom is devoted to preserving historic battlefields and is a member of the American Battlefield Trust and the Friends of Gettysburg. His other interests include politics, classical philosophy, and UVA basketball.
