Honor on the Hill

Student led Honor Committee committed to mentoring students and upholding MSA’s tradition of Honor on the Hill.

On Wednesday afternoon, the entire student body gathered to sign the Honor Book. Honor is a cornerstone of life on the Hill. Each year, students are reminded of the importance of honor during a ceremony led by the Honor Committee. After reviewing MSA’s Honor Code, each student signs the school’s Honor Book, which has been inked by students each year for many decades. In doing this, students agree to uphold the school’s Honor Code and conduct themselves honorably at all times.

The Honor Code at the Miller School of Albemarle is clear and direct: I will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor will I tolerate such conduct in others. Because it is our trust in the honorable conduct of each other that helps to bind us together as a community, the Honor Code is foundational to Miller School of Albemarle life.

The Honor Code is administered in large part by an Honor Committee composed of student and faculty members. These individuals serve the School in this vitally important capacity. It is the Honor Committee that conducts hearings with respect to allegations of Honor Code violations. These hearings are conducted in private as an educational and dispositive exercise. At the Miller School of Albemarle, there is no higher student accolade than service as a member of the Honor Committee. Our Honor Committee serve as role models, mentors, and leaders on campus.

This year’s Honor Committee includes Ben Allen, Kaitlyn Easterling, Edward Harrison, Erica Leia, Derek Li, Jordan Tessier, Jimmy Xu, Josie Galvin, Layla Jacobs, Deitrich Larson, Mia Martin, Ceci Richardson, Jackson Sneathern, Amaya Stickley, Haven Teachman, Lillian Amos, Clara McKnight, and faculty members Stephanie Crosby and Ralf Melis.

I serve on the Honor Board because I want to be a role model for the student body at Miller. I love the integrity the Miller School’s community holds and I want to do my part to uphold it. The Honor Board helps redirect and educate students who have broken the Honor Code. I strive to do my best in teaching my peers helpful learning skills that they can use throughout their life.
— Josie Galvin, Honor Committee Member
I serve on the honor board to complete my experience at Miller. It’s such a core part of Miller, and I feel it really connects me with the school’s values and goals.
— Mia Martin, Honor Committee
The Honor Board is integral to what makes Miller unique. Through my role on the committee, I can represent what I appreciate about our school while setting a good example for others.
