Seniors spray paint their names on the large rock next to the lower soccer field.

At Miller School of Albemarle, a long-standing tradition is the annual painting of the senior rock. As the school year commences, seniors gather to paint their names on this large rock situated at the edge of the lower field. Senior rock serves as the gateway to the school's 12-acre lake, picturesque meadows, and farm. Its vivid array of paint colors and the inclusion of every senior's name make it an instantly recognizable landmark.

The senior rock painting is just one of the numerous traditions at MSA. Another anticipated tradition for seniors is gaining the privilege to use the main staircase in the foyer of Old Main. Up until their senior year, students are directed to use the staircases located on the north and south ends of Old Main.

Yet, perhaps most significantly, MSA seniors enjoy the opportunity to mentor their younger peers and serve as role models within the classroom and on the athletic fields. This role is a hallmark of the senior experience at MSA, fostering a sense of community and continuity among students.
