MSA defeated Bath in the opening game at home.

The 2023 Miller School girls soccer team kicked off its season with a 4-0 win over Bath County on Monday afternoon. With a remarkable group of 23 girls on the squad this year, the team is ready for its best season in MSA history. Coach Rachel Primm remarked: “We are incredibly young with no seniors and only a handful of juniors. This is the beginning of a new era in girls soccer on the Hill.” The young team is led by captains Larissa Cole (11th), Lucy Strandquist (11th), and Haven Teachman (10th).

“With such a young team, it is tough to know what to expect going into the first game, but the team pulled off a great win.” Primm commented. Sophomore, Haven Teachman had the first goal in the 11th minute of the first half, followed by sophomore, Anna Smith in the 37th minute. Going into the second half, sophomore Sophie Scibal came in clutch with the team’s third goal in the 46th minute, followed by a fourth from Anna Smith in the 63rd minute to push her goal count to two.

New to The Miller School this year, Haven Teachman adds a massive offensive threat at right midfield. Despite this being her first year at Miller, Haven quickly meshed with the team and became a strong leader. Coach Primm remarked: “With such a large team it can be tough to manage and support 23 players, so having strong captains was a must for our team this year.”

As such, Haven, alongside Larissa Cole and Lucy Strandquist, was an easy choice for captain. In addition to her leadership skills, Haven has an excellent touch and a phenomenal cross making her a serious threat on offense. Already tallying one goal for the season, Haven is likely to have a season of scoring.

The team continues its season next week and are looking forward to growing as a team together for years to come.
