Vivian Eanes: 2023 Emily Couric Scholarship Nominee
“Empowering young women who will change the world” is the motto of the Emily Couric Foundation. Each year, seniors throughout Charlottesville and Albemarle County are nominated to participate in the selection process for the Emily Couric Scholarship. The Selection Committee seeks individuals who are making an impact on their community embodying the qualities of the scholarship’s namesake in their daily lives.
Throughout her journey at Miller, Vivian has grown from a shy first-year student into an outgoing, positive, and dependable community member. Vivian took the struggles she encountered early on at Miller and made them into strengths, becoming an active member in promoting the community through her role as a Student Ambassador. Beyond the hallways of Old Main, she fosters relationships in the dorm with every resident of Wayland Hall while mentoring and supporting younger students who are new to the community. She is a kind and responsible caregiver who always seeks ways to be a support to both the adults and students of the community and to make the dorm environment feel more like a home. She leads with kindness and by example, offering a lending hand and open heart to all that she comes in contact with.
In addition to her RA work, Vivian is a member of the National Honor Society. In that position, she helps plan meetings and coordinates community service with other members of the leadership team. Vivian is also the Captain of Miller’s concrete canoe team, a group of students who competed and won against both Virginia Tech and Virginia Military Institute last year. Vivian embodies what it means to not only be a good student but a good citizen. Taking advantage of opportunity and constantly improving are hallmarks of Vivian’s career here at the Miller School of Albemarle, and these attributes will also be hallmarks of Vivian’s Future as she continues to impact the world around her.
