Students work on the foundation of a dog house.

The eighth graders spent the day building dog shelters for the local non-profit HOWS Project. Working together, they constructed six dog houses that will be donated to HOWS later this week. The students were led by eighth-grade science teacher Christine Zito and Design/Build teacher Al Hanson.

MSA has been working with HOWS Project for the past five years to provide houses of wood and straw for local outdoor pets. HOWS Project was created in 2008 to address an overlooked need to help improve the lives and well-being of outside dogs in Charlottesville and surrounding counties. The project was one of numerous activities planned for MSA’s Enrichment Day.
