On Tuesday night, the bleachers in Blue Ridge School’s gymnasium were overflowing with a raucous crowd of MSA Mavericks cheering the JV and Varsity basketball teams. Unlike most high school basketball games where the home team benefits from a home court advantage, the crowd on Tuesday night was overwhelmingly cheering for the away team. While the Mavericks didn’t walk away with a win, the overall atmosphere at the game was a winning experience as it highlighted the unbridled school spirit at MSA this year.

The logistics of getting seventy-five MSA students and two teams to Blue Ridge School were simplified by Head of School, Mr. Drude. Recognizing the desire of students to cheer on their classmates against long-time basketball rival Blue Ridge School, Mr. Drude chartered a large passenger bus to take students and faculty to the game.

In addition to Tuesday night’s display of spirit, MSA has seen a surge in school spirit this year. The SGA has spearheaded multiple spirit weeks and pep rallies with the assistance of the Student Life office.

With both the boys and girls basketball teams having stellar season, there will be plenty of opportunities for the Mavericks to fill gyms across the state with teal and green.
