The MSA boys soccer team is off to its best season in recent school history. The Mavericks defeated Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday night. It is the first time in head coach John Macdonald’s career the team has defeated EMHS. He commented about the players’ performances: “JV had a goal in the first half. Kelby kept a clean sheet making some impressive saves and coming off his line to smother out one-on-one situations. JP defended his heart out and earned man of the match. The boys battled and played like I have never seen. It was a top Miller moment in my career.”

MSA’s soccer team has seen an infusion of talent this season and the addition of John Morelos on the coaching staff. Coach Morelos commented:

“Every player on the pitch worked hard. They played until they got calf and stomach cramps. After they got looked at and stretched by our trainer, Zach, they all wanted to keep playing despite the discomfort. That showed me the guys' tenacity and determination to win.”

Morelos continued: “We stood together and held our defensive line. We communicated and worked as a team. We pushed the ball up and rattled the opposing defense and goalie. At the end of the game, one senior player commented that the team fought and overcame the battle, a battle we were suppose to lose. I will never forget the smile on his face.”

The Mavericks play at home against Stewart Hall on Monday and Covenant on Thursday. Come watch the team in action.
