Letter from HOS
To the families of Miller School of Albemarle:
I share with you today good news concerning Miller School of Albemarle. On Tuesday evening, the Albemarle County Planning Commission approved a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors for MSA to obtain what is known as a "Special Use Permit." This is an important initial step preparing us for our future.
Several years ago, our Board of Trustees approved a master campus plan that includes the addition of several structures, improvement and expansion of residential facilities, and a new multi-purpose recreation facility. While this is a future plan, it is important for the school to begin positioning itself appropriately. That is what Tuesday night’s public meeting was all about.
I would like to point out that the commission members were impressed and appreciative of MSA's long track record of being good stewards of our historically relevant property. They were pleased to learn that Old Main, Caton Hall, and the President's House (as it is officially called) are already listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. They were also delighted to know that over 600 campus acres are forever preserved through a conservation easement.
I want to thank our Board of Trustees who had the foresight and wisdom to participate in that conservation easement several years ago. And, we thank all of our supporters who have contributed to our on-going Annual Fund Challenge Match. The unrestricted annual fund touches everyone and allows us to educate the minds, hands, and hearts of each of our students!
I also wish to extend my personal thanks (and I encourage you to do so, as well) to our faculty and staff. They, along with you and your children, are the reason why Miller is thriving and why so many families are visiting campus and making appointments with our Admissions Office.
Please know how proud I am of our amazing learning community - our future is certainly bright!
