MSA Finds Its Rhythm at Home
The Mavericks ran away with big wins at home on Thursday night. On the lower field, the boys lacrosse team came back from a tough loss on Tuesday night to defeat New Covenant in a nail-bitter that went into overtime. With the support of a cheering crowd lining the field, Will Thompson found the net in the closing seconds of the game and then again in overtime to secure the win for the Mavericks 10-9. Luke Rice and Jordan Brown led the team in scoring with 4 goals each.
Just a stone's throw away, the Lady Mavs battled the New Covenant soccer team in another close match. After Rachel Anderson scored early in the first half, the Mavericks played aggressively against a talent-filled New Covenant team. Anna Fickley made eleven key saves to keep the ball out of the net as the Mavs' offense did its best to take good shots on goal. Halfway through the second period, Devi Kaway slipped one past the New Covenant keeper to extend the lead to 2-0, which MSA held until the end of the game.
On the tennis courts, Boys Tennis defeated Fishburne Military Academy 6-3 with strong play from senior Martin Hu.
