Michelle Gottschlich joined the Miller School of Albemarle in August 2022. Prior to her arrival at MSA, Michelle taught first-year writing, studies in poetry, and creative writing at The University of Virginia. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Indiana University, receiving a BA in English in 2013. Before earning a masters in creative writing at the University of Virginia in 2021, Michelle worked as a freelance writer and co-editor/co-organizer of Monster House Press, a writer-run collective publisher of literature, art, and thought in the Midwest. In 2018, Monster House Press was awarded a Community Arts Award by the City of Bloomington Arts Commission for its role as an advocate of the arts.
During her tenure as a graduate instructor and faculty member at the University of Virginia, Michelle was awarded a fellowship to train in community-partnered pedagogy, out of which she developed and taught a writing course that combined her passions for community organizing, underground publications, and D.I.Y. culture.
In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading, writing, thrifting, seeing movies at The Violet Crown and live music. You can sometimes find her at Prints, Platters, and Pints, a local monthly art market, selling hand-made publications of her work, or just hanging out and enjoying the company of fellow D.I.Y. enthusiasts.
