Jack Meriwether joined the MSA community in 2019 as the dorm director for Old Main and the head coach of the boys varsity basketball team. In his six seasons at The Miller School, Coach Meriwether has put together a record of 116-53, including two BRAC regular season championships and a tournament championship, along with six state tournament appearances, four consecutive state semi-final appearances, and three consecutive appearances in the state title game—capped off by winning back-to-back VISAA Division II State Championships in 2024 and 2025. Meriwether was selected as the 2024 and 2025 BRAC Coach of the Year, the 2024 Central Virginia Coach of the Year, and 2024 and 2025 VISAA Division II State Coach of the Year.
Meriwether’s teams have set numerous school and state records, including the Virginia all school records for threes in a season by a single player (Ryan Crotty, 142), three-pointers in a game by a team (28) and combined three-pointers by two teammates (Ryan Crotty and Shane Crissman, 222). The 2024-2025 Miller Mavericks became the first high school basketball team to have two teammates both make over 100 three pointers in the same season.
In his six seasons at Miller, Meriwether has had 20 All-Conference selections and 13 VISAA All-State selections, including 2024 and 2025 VISAA Division II State Players of the Year (Jason Clarke, Ryan Crotty) and 2023 and 2025 BRAC Conference Players of the Year (Eli Delaurier, Ryan Crotty). In Meriwether’s tenure, Mavericks have gone on to sign and play Division 1 college basketball at the following colleges: Providence College, St. Peter’s University, Southern Illinois University, Iona University, George Mason University, Fairfield University, Hampton University, Stonehill College, Mount St. Mary’s University, The United States Air Force Academy, and Oklahoma State University.
Meriwether grew up in Charlottesville and attended Tandem Friends School, where he was a standout on the Badger’s basketball team. He made his return to the area after serving as head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he became the school’s all-time leader in Mountain East Conference wins. Prior to WVWC, Meriwether coached basketball around the state of Virginia, spending two seasons with Fork Union Military Academy’s post-graduate team, one season with Randolph College, and three years as the recruiting coordinator and 17U assistant coach for Boo Williams Nike EYBL team.
When he isn’t watching film or designing new plays, Jack’s likely learning a new board game to play with his wife Cortney and their two children, Bennett and Simon.
