Hugh Meagher is a native Virginian who has attended and worked in private schools for all of his life. Meagher spent four years as a boarding student at Christchurch School, attended Tulane University as an undergraduate, and has done graduate work at both Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia.
Recently, Meagher was awarded a Ph.D. at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. His dissertation concerns Miller’s first Headmaster Charles Vawter, Vawter’s role as rector of the boards of visitors at both Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, nineteenth century Progressive Education, and race relations during Vawter’s career.
Professionally, Meagher has been a classroom teacher, department chair, and has served in various administrative positions. He has worked at Miller since 2006 as Director of College Placement and Director of the Duty Teams.
Prior to Miller, Meagher worked at North Cross School in Roanoke for twenty-seven years. Personally, Meagher and his wife Bridget have owned and operated a restaurant and special events business for over a quarter-century, have built four houses and three commercial properties – doing much of the work themselves.
Meagher and his family live in Albemarle County on a small farm where they grow vegetables, blueberries and other fruits, and keep several hives of honey bees. They have two adult daughters.
