Al Hanson grew up in the small farming community of Harrisburg, Oregon. His dad built many houses, warehouses, and apartments, and passed on much of that knowledge to his son. In addition to learning carpentry and general fix-it skills associated with running a rental business, Mr. Hanson spent much time designing and building furniture in his woodshop for his home.

Mr. Hanson served in the United States Air Force for 20 years as an aviator and war planner. He spent 14 years flying the F-15E Strike Eagle at various locations around the world. Getting to see and experience the different cultures of the countries he visited was a highlight of his career in the military. Mr. Hanson ended his military career in 2008, seeking a second career in teaching.

Mr. Hanson has been teaching at Miller School of Albemarle since 2012. He enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his wife Kari and his two children and MSA alumni Ainsley and Kelby.
